Abigail’s Tea House – St. George, Ontario

Tucked away in the charming, one-stoplight town of St. George, Ontario, just south of Cambridge, sits Abigail’s Tea House — a cozy little spot that serves up some of the best high tea I’ve had in a long time. My husband, daughter, and I visited on a sunny afternoon, and from start to finish, it was absolutely delightful.

First things first: make a reservation. Abigail’s is small — maybe six tables — so it fills up quickly. And trust me, you’ll want to make sure you get a spot.

From the moment we walked in, we were charmed by the Victorian-inspired ambiance. The flowery wallpaper, delicate china teacups and saucers, and vintage décor created a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It’s the kind of place where you instantly feel like you’ve stepped back in time — in the best possible way.

We all opted for the full high tea experience, which was beautifully presented on a classic three-tier stand. The finger sandwiches were arranged on the bottom tier, and the standout was the triple-decker cream cheese and cucumber — light, crisp, and perfectly balanced. The middle tier held buttery scones served with proper clotted cream and preserves, and they were flaky, tender, and just the right size. The top tier featured an assortment of delicate desserts, each one more tempting than the last.

The high tea started with their famous pimento cheese spread — smooth, creamy, and packed with just the right amount of tang. The curried chicken Waldorf salad followed, plated separately and bursting with flavor.

Abigail’s offers a few different tea options depending on what you’re in the mood for:

  • High Tea – Includes pimento cheese spread, curried chicken Waldorf salad, finger sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and preserves, and desserts. Presented on a three-tier stand.
  • Celebration Tea – Similar to the High Tea but without the pimento cheese and curried chicken Waldorf salad. Also served on a three-tier stand.
  • Garden Tea – Includes the finger sandwiches and scones with clotted cream and preserves but no desserts. Presented on a two-tier stand.
  • Ladybug Young Person’s Tea – A smaller version of the High Tea designed for younger guests.
  • Gluten-Free Tea – Available with 24 hours’ notice.

Pro tip: If you need a gluten-free option, give them 24 hours’ notice, and they’ll sort it out. Also, there’s plenty of parking in the lot across the road — no need to stress about finding a spot.

If I had to nitpick, the shortbread cookie was a bit off — too much cornstarch and not enough butter — but honestly, that’s a small complaint considering how flawless everything else was.

Abigail’s is the kind of place you want to linger in. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, the tea selection is terrific, and the food is clearly prepared with care. Whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or just want to treat yourself to a cozy afternoon out, this spot is a gem. We’ll definitely be back.
