A Journey Back in Time

The Paris Wincey Mills Co. has a rich history dating back to 1889, when it originally operated as a textile factory. The term “wincey” refers to a type of fabric that was popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the mill was a significant player in the local economy. Fast forward to today, and the building has been meticulously restored, maintaining its historic charm while transforming it into a lively marketplace.

Situated at 31 Mechanic Street, the Wincey Mills is conveniently located in downtown Paris. The town itself is often referred to as “the prettiest little town in Canada,” and it’s not hard to see why. Paris is perched at the forks of the Grand and Nith Rivers, offering picturesque views and a quaint, small-town atmosphere. The mill’s location makes it an easy stop for both locals and tourists exploring the area.

One of the first things that struck me about Wincey Mills was the variety of shops housed under one roof. It’s like a mini adventure every time you visit. The market is open year-round from Thursday to Saturday, and each visit can feel like a new experience with different vendors showcasing their goods. Pro tip: plan your visit around lunchtime so you can grab lunch, and go hungry!

The Wincey Mills is also a haven for food lovers. Local farmers and food artisans bring their best products to the market. I always make it a point to stop by La Houlette de Vie for freshly baked bread that smells so good, it’s impossible to resist. The market also features vendors like Blair Elements who offer organic produce and specialty foods that make you rethink your weekly grocery run.

No trip to the Wincey Mills is complete without sampling the delicious food on offer. One of my favorite spots is The Paris Bakery Café. Their pastries are divine, and the coffee is top-notch. It’s a cozy spot to sit and people-watch or to catch up with friends. And if you’re in the mood for something heartier, the market has various stalls offering a range of cuisines, from gourmet sandwiches to international dishes.

Community Hub

The Paris Wincey Mills Co. is more than just a marketplace; it’s a community hub. Throughout the year, the mill hosts a variety of events that bring people together. From holiday markets and craft fairs to live music and cooking classes, there’s always something happening. I remember attending a Christmas market here — there was live music, festive decorations, and an infectious sense of holiday cheer that made it a memorable experience.
