I love Niagara Falls in the winter, and here’s why!
In the winter, the crowds thin out, making it the perfect time to visit the falls. With fewer tourists and plenty of seasonal activities, the off-season—especially around Christmas—offers a unique and peaceful way to experience the falls. Pro tip: A booked tour of the Power Station gives you access to the tunnel that leads to the falls. Some of the best falls views are from the landing at the end of the tunnel.

This year-round attraction allows you to descend into tunnels behind the Horseshoe Falls, where you can witness the powerful cascade from a unique vantage point. Pro tip: Go at night for the best lights. It’s often dreary during the day with limited visibility but you can almost always see all the lights at night.

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy water fun. Fallsview Indoor Waterpark offers over three acres of attractions, including massive slides, a wave pool, and hot springs to warm up in. Great Wolf Lodge also provides a family-friendly indoor waterpark experience with a variety of slides and play areas for all ages. Both are perfect options for families looking to escape the cold.
Pro tip: Avoid the Fallsview Indoor Waterpark on the weekends if you can; it gets very busy!
